Most manufacturers recommend replacing refrigerator water filters every 6 months, though heavy usage (large families, lots of ice) can shorten that to 3-4 months.
An old filter doesn't just affect taste — it can also restrict water flow, causing slow ice maker performance or misshapen ice cubes.
Always match the exact filter model for your fridge. Universal 'compatible' filters can work, but OEM filters are tested specifically against your model's flow rate and certification standards (NSF/ANSI 42 and 53 for chlorine taste/odor and lead/cyst reduction, respectively).
